PROTECT YOUR PAYCHECK: Know Where Candidates Stand

Date:

In 2018, we defeated anti-Union “Right-to-Work” at the ballot box by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. But now it’s back

Across Missouri, legislative candidates have received surveys from Americans for Prosperity asking them to support Right-to-Work laws if elected, opening the door to the legislature bringing back this horrible legislation. Right now, only Republican candidates have responded to these surveys pledging to support Right-to-Work.

Don’t forget, Right-to-Work reduces workers’ wages by $8,898 a year in states with these laws on the books. It also guts Labor Unions, making it harder to organize and advocate for workers’ rights.

The good news is, we can stop them at the ballot box just like we stopped Right-to-Work. How? By voting no on ANY candidate who is backed by Americans for Prosperity or who supports Right-to-Work.

To really make sure we are helping workers, we must also watch what candidates are saying about Proposition A to raise the minimum wage. Republicans in Jefferson City can overturn ballot measures if voters pass something the politicians don’t like. They’ve done it before, and they are ALREADY planning to do it again.

That’s why I encourage everyone to find out where candidates stand on Right-to-Work and Proposition A.

Represenative for Missouri's 21st State House District

Representative Robert E. Sauls, a Democrat, represents the eastern part of Independence in Jackson County (District 21) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2018.

Prior to his legislative duties, Sauls was a Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney and a public defender. He also served as an assistant staff judge advocate in the United States Air Force.

Sauls graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1998. He received a bachelor’s degree in International Business from William Jewell College in 2002 and a juris doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2008.

Born in Independence, Sauls is a fourth generation resident and currently resides there with his son, Jackson.
