LENEXA, KS – Workers at Johnson Controls Fire Protection L.P. have successfully voted to unionize with Kansas City’s Sprinkler Fitters Local 314 following an organizing campaign by the union.
On Wednesday, August 6th, twenty five workers at Johnson Controls had the opportunity to vote to unionize with Local 314. Workers cast a secret ballot in a vote held between 6 AM and 8 AM and between 3 PM and 5 PM overseen by the National Labor Relations Board at Johnson Controls’ facility at 11019 Strang Line Road in Lenexa.
All twenty five workers cast a ballot, with the workers winning Sprinkler Fitters Local 314 as their union on a fourteen to eleven vote.
“Organizing is never easy, but the Johnson Controls crew proved that strength comes from solidarity. This victory isn’t just about Local 314 it’s about every worker who knows they deserve better, and we’re determined to make this a trend across more shops in the fire sprinkler industry in Kansas City,” said Nigel Bayless, Business Manager of Sprinklerfitters Local 314 in a written statement.

- Sprinkler Service Technicians
- Sprinkler Inspectors
- Fire Alarm/Sprinkler Inspectors
- Suppression Installers
- Suppression Technicians
