The Labor-Management Council of Greater Kansas City has an exciting 2026 planned to fulfill our mission of enhancing collaboration by solidifying trust and communication between labor and management in the community. Here are a few of the highlights:
•The LMC has a new on-line home—https://thelaborbeacon.com/category/lmckc/. You will find meeting minutes, our Public Issues Agenda, upcoming events and member news there. •The Board of Directors has approved the 2026 Public Issues Agenda. You can find the agenda on the web site or we can email it to you.
•Upcoming events and programs include—
*47th Anniversary Celebration and 26th Awards Dinner April 9 at Argosy Casino (see below)
*40th Mid-America Labor/Management Conference July 5-8 at Camden on the Lake. Kim Becking, renowned motivational speaker who has worked with the LMC and many of our members, will keynote. Early hotel reservations are strongly encouraged due to the impact of the World Cup, 573-365-6520; conference registration will be available soon.
*29th Craig Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament is set for July 21 at Eagle’s Landing
*Public Officials Reception co-hosted with BOMA-KC will be Oct. 15 at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
*Construction Industry Committee meets the 2nd Thursday each month (except July), 8 a.m. at Mark One Electric Co., Inc.

•The LMC Board has filled some vacancies and generated its officer and board slate for 2026. Matt Harris, Plumbers Local 8, is the LMC’s new Vice Co-Chair, Labor. He joins Co-Chairs Jimmy Walker, Independence Fire Department, and Bo Moreno, IBEW Local 124, and Vice Co-Chair Chris Stanton, McCownGordon Construction Co. Chris will become Management Co-Chair at the annual meeting during the Anniversary Celebration April 9. The Board also nominated Ralph Oropeza, Greater Kansas City Building & Construction Trades Council, secretary, and Greg Davey, The Builders AGC, treasurer, for reelection as officers and Mike Kane, Tri-County AFL-CIO for the Executive Committee. This year’s Board nominees will be Mike Keeran, Teamsters Local 541 (re-election), Stacey Smyly, SMACNA-KC and past co-chair Dan Heizman, Fire Fighters Local 42.

The Labor-Management Council Golf Tournament brings together top labor and management leaders in an informal atmosphere combining cooperation and competition. The tournament recognizes its founder Craig Whitaker, longtime LMC Board member. Eagles Landing Golf Club is an outstanding public course. It’s located at 4200 Bong Ave., Belton MO 64012. All ability levels welcome!
