Local 1290 Welcomes Conor Eubanks as Political Affairs Director

Date:

My name is Conor Eubanks, and I recently joined the Construction and General Laborers’ Local 1290 as Political Affairs Director, replacing the esteemed Mike Kane as he enters retirement. First, I want to thank Mike for all he has done in this role, and though I have big shoes to fill, I look forward to the challenge!

I come to Local 1290 from Governor Laura Kelly’s office, where I served as Director of Governmental Affairs – Labor Policy. However, I have a long history working in Labor and politics at both the state and national level. Prior to the Governor’s office, I served as Political Director for Governor Kelly’s reelection campaign, Political Coordinator for the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union in D.C., a lobbyist and consultant for the Working Kansas Alliance (WKA), and helped lead numerous political and legislative campaigns across Kansas. Earlier in my career, I served as Career Development Coordinator for United Steelworkers Local 307.

I am a proud, born and raised Kansan, and a graduate of Kansas State University. I currently live in Lawrence with my wife Cheyenne, and our dog, Moose. Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work with labor organizations, elected officials, and community leaders across the state and the nation. Those experiences reinforced my belief that working people achieve the greatest gains when they stand together and make their voices heard, both in the workplace and at the ballot box.

I am honored to join Local 1290 and to represent an organization with a proud history of fighting for fair wages, safe working conditions, strong benefits, and dignity on the job. The members of Local 1290 help build and maintain the infrastructure that keeps our communities moving, and I am committed to ensuring that their voices are heard in city halls, under the dome at the State Capitol, and everywhere important decisions are made. In my role, I will work to support candidates and elected officials who share organized labor’s values and engage our membership in the political process, ensuring that working people have a seat at every table where decisions affecting working families are made. I will also represent Local 1290’s interests at the State Capitol in Topeka and in local communities, making sure our elected officials are advancing policies that reflect the Local’s values and benefit working people while fighting against legislative attacks on organized labor.

My goal is simple: to help elect pro-Labor candidates at every level of government and ensure that, once elected, they remain accountable to the workers and families who put them in office. I am excited to get to work on behalf of the members of Local 1290 and look forward to helping build a stronger future for working Kansans, together.

In solidarity,

Conor Eubanks
